§ 7. [Officers, staff.]

  • (a)

    Officers of the board shall be a chairman and a vice-chairman elected by the board from its own number.

    (b)

    The city treasurer shall be secretary of the retirement system. The secretary shall keep, or cause to be kept, such data as shall be necessary for an actuarial valuation of the assets and liabilities of the retirement system.

    (c)

    The city treasurer shall be treasurer of the retirement system. All payments from funds of the retirement system shall be authorized by the city treasurer at the direction of the board.

    (d)

    The board may appoint an actuary who shall be the technical advisor to the board on matters regarding the operation of the retirement system and who shall perform such other duties as are required in connection therewith.

    (e)

    The board may appoint a medical director who shall not be eligible to participate in the retirement system as a member, beneficiary, or retired member. The medical director shall be responsible to and shall hold office at the pleasure of the board. He shall arrange for and pass upon all medical examinations required under this chapter. He shall investigate all essential statements and certificates of a medical nature made by or on behalf of a member or retired member; and he shall report in writing to the board his conclusions on medical matters referred to him by the board.

    (f)

    The board may employ such professional and clerical services as are required for the proper operation of the retirement system. The compensation for such services shall be fixed by the board.
