§ 10. [Termination of membership.]

Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, should any member have separated or become separated from the service of the city, for any reason except his retirement, disability, or death, he shall thereupon cease to be a member and his credited service at that time shall be forfeited by him. Should he be re-employed by the city he shall again become a member under such terms and conditions as shall be set forth by ordinance. Upon his retirement or death, he shall cease to be a member. Upon a member's election to terminate membership, the member shall cease to be a member.
