§ 1. [Name and establishment.]

  • On April 3, 1944, the City of Birmingham Employees Retirement System, hereinafter called the Retirement System, was established for the purpose of providing retirement allowances and death benefits for the employees of the City of Birmingham, Michigan, and their dependents under the provisions of this chapter of the Charter of the City of Birmingham as amended from time to time and the ordinances promulgated hereunder. In addition to the above retirement plan, the City of Birmingham is authorized to establish by ordinance additional retirement systems or plans in the future, such as defined contribution plans or any other plan as the City Commission may elect.
